Over 151,000 meals packaged by UI Community & Campus

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered for the 2018 Community & Campus Day of Service!!! We came together to package over 151,000 meals for the Eastern Illinois Foodbank, Midwest Mission Distribution Center, and many other organizations fighting hunger in our community. This would not have been possible without everyone’s time and effort, and the support of our many sponsors and donors who provided ingredients, funding, and other resources for the event. Thank you for your participation — as a result of your efforts, families in need in our local community will benefit.

This event bumped Illini Fighting Hunger over the 3,000,000 (yes, MILLION!) meal mark! Over the past 6 years, we have facilitated over 41,000 service hours from more than 24,000 volunteers.

Thank you to all those in our community who came out to lend their support to this event — we couldn’t have done it without you!

How does the packaging process work?

Illini Fighting Hunger facilitators always provide a full tutorial at the beginning of every packaging event. However, if you want to get ahead of the game or are just curious about how the process works, we’ve outlined the process for our casserole packaging projects here. We also facilitate single-ingredient packaging projects, which are effectively the same (just with one ingredient, like rice or pinto beans, instead of four!) Continue Reading…
